Winter is here again and as the temperature drops, so does the humidity. Home heating just adds to the arid conditions. It is the time of year to worry most about the condition of your humidor.  Please find below some news, instructions and tips -- all about humidification.
 
My recent trip to Arizona left me feeling just like a cigar in winter!  However, the XIKAR "Desert Shootout" with Tinderbox Phoenix also reminded me of the power of the collective voice in the fight for our rights.  The NRA has been extraordinarly successful in protecting the liberties and freedoms of all Americans, because they have engaged constituents who participate and communicate their rights to the politicians.
 
The need for smokers to preserve our rights is at an all time high.  We are under attack by taxation, regulation and social change.  We are under attack by the economy itself.  And the only way we can stop this change is at the grass roots level -- with you and your voice!  Please take a moment to read my full thoughts on the matter here and get to see a few more photos of the desert shootout (cool guns!).
 
Little can be accomplished for cigar smokers without representation from organizations like the CRA or the Defiance Alliance. Sign up and be active.

How to Season a HumidorXIKAR Experts Kurt and Scott
So you've just bought a brand new humidor, and you know the wood is too dry for your favorite stogies to call it home quite yet. How do you get the humidor ready?
 
Don't rinse the insider with water! The Spanish Cedar inside the humidor will swell or "fuzz up", damaging the liner.

Just follow a few simple steps:
1. Get a two-way humidification device, like a XIKAR Crystal humidifier jar or 50, 100 or 250 ct - depending on the size of your humidor and how many cigars you plan to store.

2. Add only PG solution to the humidifier (NOT distilled water - it will humidify too quickly because there is no PG to restrict the flow of moisture), place the humidifier in your empty humidor and wait a couple days. If you don't own a hygrometer, our adjustable digital hygrometer is perfect to monitor both temperature and humidity.
 
3. Check the humidity inside the humidor in 24hrs. Slowly but surely the humidifier will emit moisture into the humidor wood for slow, proper "seasoning".
 
4. Once your humidor reaches 65% - 70% relative humidity it is safe to put your cigars inside. This process can happen overnight or up to 2 weeks, depending on your climate.
