    MEMBER OF THE MONTH

This months member is Timm Tews. Timm is a longtime XIKAR friend who has volunteered to test one of our new lighters in the very unforgiving high altitudes in Colorado. Timm was kind enough to write a little bit about himself:

My weakness for cigars started with Clint Eastwood movies. As a teen I would get my hands on cigars that wouldn't be much bigger around than a number 2 pencil, worried that big meant bad. I started smoking premium cigars in 1979 when an older classmate from college [Bob Schlifke] would take me to delicatessens he knew in the Chicago area that would sell cigars displayed in glass cases typically beneath the cash register. Partagas, Macanudo, and Royal Jamaican were the available premiums in those days.

I continually sample new cigars, but my favorite is Ernesto Cabrillo's [maker of La Gloria Cubana] El Rico Habano, even over those originating south of Miami.

My friend Bob also introduced me to a "V" cutter, as the "circumcisers" of the 70's would destroy the head of a cigar nine times out of ten. I used bullet cutters in the 80's...real bullet cases once belonging to my grandfather. It wasn't until my introduction to a Xikar cutter by Larry from the Cigar Warehouse in Sherman Oaks, CA, that I would chance a circumciser again. It took a few years of using Larry's store cutter before I was brought around to justify buying a cutter that cost more than $2, but I haven't used another brand since, and now own two: one for the house, and one for my car.

I have a background in manufacturing and business. I have a passion for fly fishing and love the camaraderie of friends from church. Birds and gardens are right up there. Last year, Cynthia (my bride of 20 years) and I moved from Los Angeles to the Rockies above Colorado Springs to raise our miracle daughter, Avery, born less than two years ago. What a blessing to start a family in one's mid forties, an age where life can really be appreciated.

I sent you this shot...my first winter away from Los Angeles, note that the electric cord is attached to a heating pad. Imagine a propane patio heater just off- camera.

    Cheers,
    Timm

Thanks Timm and enjoy your prize pack!
