ICE-AGE MAMMOTH IVORY ADORNS ULTRA-EXCLUSIVE
XIKAR CUTTER & KNIFE SET
Highly Prized, Limited Edition Set Made from 10,000 Year Old Ivory
Kansas City, MO Thousands of years ago, the early XIKAR man was
measured not by the size of his cave or how hot his
fire burned. Instead, his status was secured when
triumphant during The Hunt. Victorious over a bison,
bear or ancient mammoth, our early man earned his
status as a result of the food, warmth and tools his
successful hunt provided to the clan.
And so it is with today's XIKAR man.
XIKAR introduces the most unique product offering to
date: The Fossil Mammoth Ivory Cigar Cutter and
Knife. Each piece is unique, as fossil ivory offers an
unusual mosaic of color derived from the surrounding
soil, ice or plant life to which it was formed. No two
are alike.
The Alaskan or Siberian fossilized mammoth ivory
used for the handles is at least 10,000 years old,
according to company officials. Only the exterior, or
most valuable section of the mammoth's tusk shows
the color, and is referred to as "bark," since it
resembles tree bark. Some of this fossil ivory has
blue or green streaks and brings the highest price.
Kurt Van Keppel, XIKAR's president, states, "These
Fossil Mammoth Ivory sets are scrimshawed with
cave art and are limited to 250 sets, at $600 per
set. We will also offer the cutter and knife
separately, without the cave art scrimshaw, in an
unlimited run. We won't produce large numbers all at
once, but enough to keep deliveries reasonable."
XIKAR has also announced a new scrimshaw-adorned
Elephant Ivory cigar cutter, whose exclusivity is
eclipsed only by the rarity of its awe-commanding,
prehistoric ancestor. First shown last summer, the
Elephant Ivory cutters are available this year, with a
Celtic scrimshaw pattern. The Elephant Ivory cutter
mates with the extremely limited edition of XIKAR's
scrimshawed Elephant Ivory Xi-118 Élan pocket-
knives. These knives are currently offered in the
Nature Series, with trout, hummingbird and dragonfly
designs.
Van Keppel reports, "Only about a dozen lucky parties
will receive an Elephant Ivory knife per year,
depending on availability of legal ivory, and the time
for the artist to hand-create the finely-detailed
scrimshaw needlework. The artist who does all our
ivory work is Rick 'Hutch' Hutchings, a renowned
Kentucky master scrimshander. Custom art orders
are available by request, including the owner's
name." The Elephant Ivory cutters and knives are
sold separately, at a suggested retail of $300 each.
The XIKAR Élan Xi-118 gentlemen's pocket knife was
also chosen for the Elephant Ivory models. It has a
stainless-steel frame-lock body and Z60 stainless
blade. At 2-3/4 inches (closed) and only 1 ounce,
the pocket knife fits perfectly in any suit pants
pocket.
XIKAR's industry-recognized Xi-3 ergonomic cutter
is the basis for both Mammoth and Elephant Ivory
cutters. This style of double-guillotine, unique to
XIKAR, has become the #1 cutter sold in America.
"We were amazed at the instant demand for our
Elephant Ivory knife. We offered it in the African Big
5 series (Lion, Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Leopard and
Rhino), and the entire limited production is already
sold out. Anyone who appreciates the collector and
artistic value of these rare masterpieces had best not
wait to order theirs."
