Kansas City, MO - May 3rd, 2003 - How does a new, bold knife get your attention? By
getting Extreme. And that's just what knife designer and
manufacturer XIKAR is hoping will appeal to its
customers.
Launched this spring during the knife industry's largest
annual event known as the SHOT Show, the Xi-188
Extreme is generating some extreme attention in the
marketplace -- so says knife designer Scott Almsberger,
vice president and product designer for the company.
"This gentlemen's tactical is a must-have for both the
everyday connoisseur and the serious knife collector,"
Almsberger stated. "It is smooth, slim, light and
ergonomic."
With an open length of 188mm (7.37 inches), the
Extreme is the company's largest folder yet. However,
weighing in at just 3.5 oz., the Extreme carries like a
much smaller knife.
"I have carried the knife for a few weeks and it is
amazingly light and slim -- I really don't notice it. This is
unusual for such a big knife, " says Dave Boeckel,
General Manager for Chesapeake Knife & Tool, one of
the country's largest knife retailers.
The XI-188 Extreme is XIKAR's fourth entry in the
world of ergonomic, precision knives. It follows the
successful launch of the 118 Elan, 138 Excel and most
recently, the 158 Excursion.
The 188 Extreme is constructed with an anodized
aircraft aluminum frame, and Z60 stainless blades
hardened to HRC 58. The blade is available in either
razor or combo edge, with optional Black Teflon coating,
The knife features a titanium liner and clip, and handle
options of G10, coco bolo or ambuina.
"I love the Xi-188 Extreme for its ergonomics and
precision," said Almsberger. "It shows that a big knife
can be comfortable and smooth."
He adds that "we are really enthusiastic about its
introduction; it was a huge hit at the Shot and IWA
shows".
